What is a Caregiver Intensity Score
The Caregiver Intensity Score is a scientifically developed and statistically validated tool used to quickly gauge how things are going for us as caregivers. Caregiving intensity is calculated by measuring the things that are most challenging about caregiving (things like financial stress and family conflict) against the things that may be lightening your caregiving load (we call them ‘buffers’), like support from your job or from the community.
Each question matters (don’t worry - there aren’t a lot of them), and there are no right or wrong answers. Knowing your score will help validate how it’s all going – and it will get you access to things that can help. It can also give you a simple way to let other people in your life know how you’re doing so they know best how to help.
Being a caregiver isn’t easy, whether you’ve been doing it for years or became one overnight. And caregiving can feel like a rollercoaster – some days are bright and full of purpose, while other feel completely overwhelming. These quick questions are designed to help give you the tools you need to manage your situation – whatever it may be.
